Also containing some papers and correspondence from when it was the Empire Press Union (1949-50). Members (and correspondents) include the Lord Astor of Hever as President, Gavin Astor as Chairman of Council, Lord Thomson as Vice-Chairman of Council and Harry Brittain as founder.
Folder 1 contains mainly administrative papers, but some correspondence with Lord Astor of Hever, regarding conferences held in 1955, 1956, 1957, 1959 and 1961. Documents include a list of delegations for the Quinquennial Conference, held in India and Pakistan, in 1961; details of appeals made by the Union, including one for the training of journalists overseas (1959); minutes of meetings held and and papers on administrative matters associated with attending the conferences (hotel arrangements, and obtaining currency etc).
Folder 2 is divided into 5 sections, labelled 'Commonwealth Press Union - Astor Award', 'Commonwealth Press Union- Minutes of UK Section', an unlabelled section, 'Commonwealth Press Union-Establishment of (Constitution of UK Section', and a final section, containing an edited summary of LP Scott's retirement speech, sent to the Commonwealth Press Union (November 1973), for possible inclusion in their quarterly bulletin, and printed copies of the Quarterly of the Commonwealth Press Union for the years January 1964- June 1976 (27 no.), respectively.
