Abstract | Satirical novel of Muggeridge's time at the Guardian, 1930-33. Produced in 1934 it was withdrawn from publication following a request to Eyre and Spottiswode from the Guardian's lawyers. It was eventually published as a book in 1987 following a serialisation in the New Statesman in 1973. This copy was bought by Cecil Ballantine in 1943 or 1944. It is dedicated by Muggeridge to his 'mother and father-in-law, September 16, 1934'. Ballantine later offered the book back to Muggeridge who rededicated it: 'Cecil Ballentine. A belated discovery, at Eastbourne, November 29, 1968'. |
