About the Archive
The Guardian News & Media Archive, which is owned by the
Guardian Foundation, preserves and
promotes the histories and values of the Guardian and the Observer newspapers
and websites through collecting, cataloguing and making accessible material that
provides an accurate and comprehensive history of the papers. Formerly part of
the Newsroom, the Guardian and Observer archive and visitor centre in Farringdon
Road, the archive is now held at GNM's head office in King's Cross, London.
Established in 2002, the archive's aim is to collect and preserve original
documents that record the stories behind the Guardian and the Observer. As well
as the official papers of the organisations the archive actively seeks to
acquire material from people who have been associated with the papers. Our
collections contain correspondence, diaries, notebooks, original cartoons, oral
history recordings and extensive photographic libraries.
