DescriptionNotebook, written mostly in shorthand, containing notes on the [third extraordinary meeting of of the OAU [Organisation of African Unity] held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, September 1964] to discuss the deteriorating political situation in the Republic of the Congo including notes on: the OAU mission and Charter; providing assistance to the Republic of the Congo; the use of foreign mercenaries and armies; decolonisation; political movements; instability and possible solutions and actions proposed by OAU member countries.

Names featured include: [Moïse] Tshombe, Diallo Telli, Kwame [Nkrumah], Jim Howard, Mobutu Sese Seko, [Joseph] Kasa-Vubu, Mongi Slim and [Kojo] Botsio.

Transcribed by Christine Watkins in 2021 as part of the Clyde Sanger shorthand transcription project with funding from The National Archive’s Collaborate and Innovate Testbed Fund. The pdf transcription document also contains a digitised copy of the notebook.
