Description | Notebook, written mostly in shorthand, containing notes taken by Sanger as The Guardian's United Nations correspondent. Subjects include: the New York Transit strike [January 1966]; expansion of the United Nations Security Council; a UN Security Council discussion on the Vietnam war including contributions from the US, USSR, UK, France, Nigeria and Jordan; International Commission discussion on the Vietnam war; National debt, the IBRD [International Bank for Reconstruction and Development], IDA [International Development Agency] and World Bank; brief mentions of various committee meetings and reports; UNFICYP [United Nations Peacekeeping Force In Cyprus] and discussions on the vote to extend the Force's mandate in Cyprus; South West Africa; and the development of UNITAR [United Nations Institute for Training and Research].
