Description | Contains memoranda from Alistair Hetherington circulated to the editorial team. The memos started on 8 February 1963 and were intially titled 'Weekly Information'. The title was later changed to 'Editorial News' to reflect the reduced frequency of distribution.
The memos provide a bulletin of internal news including staff changes, vacancies, newspaper style and content changes, extracts from readers letters, good news stories related to editorial team and other corporate information.
Also included is a memo titled 'Progress and Prospects, 1963-64' dated 1 January 1964 in which Alistair Hetherington reflects on poor newspaper sales in 1963 and changes occuring in 1964. These include expansion of the newspaper and Hetherington's relocation from Manchester to London.
A small number of other memos which focus on a specific issue such as staff changes or foreign correspondents are also included. The file also contains an announcement (and corrections) of the voluntary redundancy of London Editor Gerard Fay, dated 15 December 1966. |
