Description | File of papers and correspondence, relating to LP Scott's association with (and membership of, from 1962) the Newspaper Publishers Association (formerly known as the Newspaper Proprietors Association).
File consists of 2 folders labelled 'Newspaper Proprietors Associaton from Jan 1947' and 'NPA - Council Meeting Minutes'.
Contents of folder 1 include correspondence with Lord Rothermere, Lord Burnham and LJ Cumner (amongst others) of the Association, on the distribution and circulation of the Guardian in Germany (1947); on establishing a uniform minimum wage for press telegraphists, and on clerical rates for women (1949-51), and on attempts to achieve parity of wages across the profession. 1947-1959.
Folder 2 consists almost exclusively of typescript copies of minutes, made at council meetings, during the years 1961-1973. Issues discussed are diverse, but the development of wage structures, the potential for manpower reductions and discussions with trade unions, and the monitoring of cover prices, are typical examples. |
