Description | File contains correspondence with the Council of Manchester University, of which LP Scott was deputy chairman (1957-1970). Most date from the years 1968-1972. Contents include copy of address made at a meeting on 3rd September 1962, entitled 'Can Competition Survive in the Newspaper Industry?'; correspondence with the Department of Extra-Mural Studies on preparing and giving a paper at a conference, and more generally, on LP Scott's association with the department, and his attendance at their various functions (1962, 1971); correspondence with Manchester University, on LP Scott's resignation as a member of the Council (1970); correspondence with the University of Manchester Union, on the allocation of charitable funds (1971-2), including a 'Statement of Beneficiaries and Amounts to be distributed together with Statement of Income and Expenditure and Auditors' note', 1972.
Also included is correspondence and papers relating to Scott and Constance's attendance at the 10th Commonwealth Universities Congress, held at Sydney, Australia in August 1968, and their subsequent short tour of Australia and New Zealand. Correspondents include Professor Sir William Mansfield Cooper, vice-chancellor of the University of Manchester; Professor JAL Matheson, vice-chancellor of Monash University in Melbourne; G Whyte of West Australian Newspapers Ltd; Sir Lloyd Dumas; lieutenant colonel EHB Neill, many of whom gave the Scott's hospitality on their trip.
Also included is a list of graduates of the University of Manchester who are members of staff in Australian Universities, an itinery of their trip, a copy of the programmes distributed at the conference, and a copy of Scott's comprehensive report on the visit (17 pp). |
