Admin History | Founded in November 1991, Electronic Text Newspaper Associates Limited was a company which provided specialist equipment for people with visual impairments. It was set up jointly by the RNIB, Guardian Newspapers Limited, Aptech Limited and Intelligent Research Limited.
ETNA offered a subscription service for visually impaired people to a full text version of the Guardian, six days a week. Text from the Guardian was delivered to the subscriber through a computer that was attached to a television aerial and the text was read aloud to users via a voice synthesizer.
Other products produced by ETNA included: speaking teletext and TV sound; document scanners, printers and Braille embossers and voice synthesizers and screen-readers. |
