Generally three leading articles were published Tuesday - Friday, with two leading articles published on Saturday and Monday. On Mondays and Saturdays the leading articles appeared as a column on the left side of the page. From Tuesday to Fridays they appeared across the top third of the page until Tuesday 22 January 1991 from which date a two column format on the left hand side of the page is adopted. The leading articles were published under the heading 'Comment' rather than the traditional heading 'The Guardian'.
