Admin History | The Diary had its origins in the Miscellany column and the London Letter which were launched in c1820s and c1860s respectively. The columns were merged in 1966 although it is unclear when the name Guardian Diary was introduced. Contributions to the diary came from staff correspondents, readers and paid freelancers although this varied over time. A significant proportion of the content was generated by the editor's own interests. The column ran until September 2014. Regular editors between 1966 and 2014 included Peter Preston, Eric Silver, Alan Smith, Martin Walker, Michael White, John Torode, Peter Hillmore, Martin Wainwright, Alan Rusbridger, Mathew Norman, Marina Hyde and Hugh Muir. |
