TitleEditor's general correspondence 1987-1988
Date1987-1988
Extent20 files
Creator NameGuardian Newspapers Limited; Editor's Office; Peter Preston (1938-2018)
DescriptionGeneral correspondence with Peter Preston, 1987-1988. Includes comments by both parties about printing problems, the new Guardian design (launched 1988) and the Spycatcher legal case.

In few instances (e.g editor's absence from the office) responses have been sent by the Editor's secretary or deputy editor. These are clearly distinguished as they include details of the respondents name and job title, whereas responses from Peter Preston end 'Yours sincerely' with no further details following.

This series also demonstrates the change in technology used within the editor's office through the introduction of computer printed, rather than typewritten, letters in this period.
System Of ArrangementAlphabetical by surname (regardless of organisation).
The original system of arrangement appears to have been intended to be within files according to the first letter of the individual's surname and then by date of response by the editor. This has been changed to alphabetical by surname for consistency (within the file and with other sequences) and for ease of access, as correspondence with an individual is now in one place.
