Description | Records relating to the David Harlech Democracy Prize.
Established in 1985 in memory of Lord Harlech the prize was a video-making competition for 16-26 year olds (16-23 before 1987). Entries for the prize were on the subject of how democracy could be made to work better. The Guardian was co-sponsor of the prize along with HTV (the Independent television licensee for Wales and West of England) and provided the prizes for the winners.
Includes internal and external correspondence relating to the launch of the prize, the prize winners and the awards ceremonies.
Also includes two copies of the launch press release, the shortlists and the scripts for the shortlisted entries from 1987 and 1988.
There is a VHS video associated with the 1987 prize.
