DescriptionAn ostrich labelled 'UN' stands tall over a city. It is standing on masses of waste (cans, bottles, abandoned cars, etc) and there is an old tire around its neck. A bridge full with heavy traffic and an industiral area can both be seen in the background, producing masses of pollution. The ostrich looks on anxiously.

[News from 6 June: Dr Kurt Waldheim, the United Nations Secretary General, pleaded for a drastic re-ordering of international priorities to meet the staggering problems of the polluted planet. He opened the first global conference on the human environment held in Stockholm.] (Source: The University of Kent, British Cartoon Archive)
