Title | Thanks lads, we were wondering when the rest of the foundation stone would arrive |
Date | [1969] |
Extent | 1 cartoon |
Creator Name | Gibbard; Leslie David (1945-2010); cartoonist |
Description | Two men lower a large block of stone from a pick-up truck labelled "TGWU Bros Stone-Wallers". Two other men are leaning against a half-completed stone wall. The caption reads "Thanks lads, we were wondering when the rest of the foundation stone would arrive."
It is likely that this cartoon refers to a 1969 strike at Ford Motor Company plants, which was backed by members of the Transport and General Worker's Union (TGWU) and the Amalgamated Engineer's Federation (AEF). The general secretary of the TGWU is probably the larger nosed man descending from the TGWU truck and it is likely that the former General Secretary Frank Cousins is the man assisting him. The other two men are likely lead representatives of the AEF. |
