Description | Cartoon shows Edward Heath lying on the ground, clutching a suit in his hand, in his underwear, lying underneath a skeleton which has spilled out of an open warddrobe. Anthony Barber (Chancellor of the Exchequer) looks on angrily from the doorway [Home secretary Reginald Maulting] looks at Heath with concern from the side of the frame.
Background information: in 1971 Edward Heath misread a speech that he was giving to parliament regarding a scandal involving the Lonrho company. Instead of saying that this was an "unacceptable and unappealing facet of capitalism" Heath said that this scandal was the "unacceptable face of capitalism". |
