Context: 9 December, general agreement was reached in Brussels that Britain should have a five-year period of adaptation on entering the EEC, at least for its industry and agriculture. But at the end of the meeting there was still disagreement on the crucial question whether Britain's adaptation to the EEC's finance system would have to be completed in the same length of time.The agreement was reached between Geoffrey Rippon and the Foreign Ministers of the Six (source: Kent Cartoon Archives).
