| Description | In the first picture of this cartoon, Labour's Michael Foot is sitting with his back to Margaret Thatcher who is holding a leaflet that reads 'Labour Manifesto' and pointing at him and saying 'He'd sell out to the other side and leave us all defenceless!' There is a sign behnd her on a building that says 'Keep Out'. In the second illustration Foot is standing pointing at Thatcher in the distance, and holding a leaflet that reads 'Cooperation in the NHS & private sector, Confidential!' He is saying 'She'd sell to the other side and leave you defenceless!' There is an ambulance in the background and Thatcher is standing under a sign pointing away that reads 'Casualty'.
[Likely that this refers to the accusation the Labour party made that Thatcher was planning to get rid of the healthcare service due to a leaked NHS document. (Source: The Guardian, article, 1 June 1983).] |
