| Title | "You are abolished - Dock Labour Scheme" |
| Date | 11 April 1989 |
| Extent | 1 cartoon |
| Creator Name | Gibbard; Leslie David (1945-2010); cartoonist |
| Description | Depicts [Norman Fowler] waving a 'You Are Abolished' red rag to the 'Dock Labour Scheme' represented by two Bulls. Margaret Thatcher props herself up against a cargo box labelled 'This Way Up' on the left sidelines. The scheme which guaranteed dockers jobs for life was axed by the government as a prelude to privatisation. Under new Tory legislation, any protest strike would have been political and therefore illegal, as it was not a direct dispute with the employers. |
