Description | A giant British passport is being unveiled by an Indian woman and a proud [James Callaghan]. The passport has "Kenyan Asian British Passport" written on top of it and there is a sign below which reads "Design centre special award. Exhibition of disposable goods".
[The image presumably parodies the response to the large numbers of Kenyans and Asians fleeing to Britain and the introduction of the 1968 Commonwealth Immigration Act. A new entry system was put in place on holders of British passports with no close connection to anyone living in the UK and was considered highly controversial at the time]. Originally the image had Harold Wilson standing next to the passport and not [James Callaghan]. |
