He describes joining the paper from the Telegraph (previously at the Yorkshire Post in Leeds). He was given a Saturday job by Ken Obank, managing editor of the paper. He describes his recollections of working for ITN during the Cuban missile crisis, and subsequent Saturday reporting for the Observer. He also mentions how Africa was the abiding issue for the Observer at the time. |
