Description | Recollections of Frank Page's time at the Observer, between 1963 - 1982.
He describes being offered staff jobs by both The Times and The Observer in late 1968, (he chose the Observer because of the "friendliness and intellectual rigour"). He also describes how small the sports desk itself was, aided by the long and impressive list of contributors. He recalls fondly the characters of the time, including Clifford Makins and Hugh Mcllvanney. |
Admin History | A journalist since 1952, Frank Page worked as a freelancer for the Observer during the early 1960s. He was sub-editor on the sports pages from 1965 and wrote the occasional feature. From 1969 to 1982 he was full-time staff member on the Observer sports pages. He also worked on the launch of the Yellow Pages in Britain. |
Custodial History | Part of a project by the Observer to gather material for the archive. |
