Stephen describes how he came to work for the Observer in January 1970, coming to the attention of the editors after a piece in the Spectator.
He comments on how the outspoken nature of his first piece caused six weeks of correspondence, and how his aim was to campaign against "horrible" housing estates being built. During this time Stephen was also working as an architect. |
