File 1 (1965-1970): Contains correspondence and memos chiefly relating to national NUJ / NPA wage structure planning and The Observer's new new wage structure (1970) and to the national and house policies on unqualified journalists. Includes multiple drafts of the 1970-71 Observer House agreement, copy correspondence with the government Department of Employment and Productivity and copy minutes of relevant national NPA / NUJ meetings. Also includes correspondence relating to other matters, like pensions and door keys for the Observer building at 160 Queen Victoria St.

Key correspondents include: Roger Harrison, Donald Trelford, KF Sisson, JN Hopwood, David Perman (as father of the chapel) and John C Littlejohns.

File 2 (1969): Contains draft and copy NUJ house agreements from other newspaper publishers, including the Guardian, and a draft Observer salary structure.

Files 3 (1970-1972): Contains: correspondence relating to the role of the Editor in negotiations; correspondence and memos relating to the national NUJ claim and the NPA response; an NUJ 'say no to the NPA' ballot poster produced by the Fleet St. Fathers of the Chapels Committee; advice from the NPA about dealing with stoppages of work; minutes/transcripts from NPA / NUJ meetings, including those held on 16 & 20 Nov 1970 and 10, 25 & 31 May 1972; minutes from the NPA Executive Committee meeting on 4 May 1972; propsed NPA responses to NUJ claims (1972); a graph showing national earnings in the sector for 1966-1972; calculations relating to the potential cost of the NUJ claim (1972 and an annotated, unsigned NPA/NUJ memo/agreement dated 26 Nov 1970.

Correspondence is mainly with representatives of the NPA Industrial Relations Executive, the Executive Committee and the NPA Council. Key correspondents include: Tristram Jones, JH O'Keefe; N Reeves and Frank Rogers.
