Mather also corresponded with many embassies, requesting information, interviews or permission to visit countries, such embassies including: Chekslovak Embassy; Japanese Embassy; Embassy of Yugoslavia; Embassy of the Somali Democratic Republic; German Democratic Republic Embassy; Embassy of Polish People's Republic; Royal Norwegian Embassy; Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia; and other representatives in countries such as: Australia; Iran; Sudan; Ethiopia; France; Bolivia; and Belize.

Also includes invitations to Mather to attend briefings, events and press tours held by such organisations as the Ministry of Defence, and the North American Treaty Organization (NATO).

Letters from readers relate to requests for information, contesting information in his articles or praising his articles.

Some letters are written by Helen Simpson, Mather's secretary, on his behalf.

The majority of letters are in English but some are in French.
