DescriptionThis series includes examples of images from the photographic library kept by Gemini News Service to support their news articles. Photographs were predominantly sent to the Gemini office by contributors to Gemini, by agencies from countries of interest to Gemini, including ministries of information in Commonwealth countries, and by non-governmental organisations.

The photographs were kept in subject files, predominantly divided into countries/geographical areas, which were stored in a broadly alphabetical sequence. The catalogue structure reflects this with an A-Z sequence (GEM/4/1/5/1/1-124). In addition some subject files were kept, of which the three files on animals (GEM/4/1/5/2/1) disasters (GEM/4/1/5/2/2) and films (GEM/4/1/5/2/3) are examples. The original file titles have been retained.

The photographs in this series are a selection of the original photographic library. The photographic library has been appraised by the archivists with Derek Ingram, founder of Gemini, and the images selected are typical of the stories and issues that Gemini would cover.

The majority of the items are photographic prints, either the original print (where found) or the syndicated print which would include a caption. Examples of production negatives have been retained where the print is of poor quality or was not found. There are also a few examples of colour transparencies.

Context information including in the catalogue comes from information retained on or with the image or has been supplied by Derek Ingram.
