| Admin History | In October 1985, Gemini News Service introduced the 'views from the village' rural reporting project which funded journalists in developing countries to stay in a village in their own country, after which they describe the village, its people and concerns in articles for Gemini. The project received backing from international agencies, including the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (SIDA) and the British Overseas Development (ODA) Agency. The aim of project, which was managed by Kelly McParland (Gemini assistant editor), was to train journalists in rural reporting and to show urban journalists and publishers important and interesting stories from rural areas.
In 1989, Gemini published a training manual, 'views from the village', which was based on the experiences of the project's journalists. Gemini also organised rural development workshops to train journalists in rural reporting techniques and to develop interest in stories from rural areas. |
